Intimate Charleston Courtyard Wedding Inspiration
When it comes to planning an outdoor Charleston wedding, creating an atmosphere that feels both grand and personal is an art form. For Hannah and Branson, their courtyard celebration pulled off that exact balance, a romantic garden setting that felt effortless from the moment guests sat down to the final dance under the stars.
An Intimate Garden Ceremony
Set against a backdrop of historic stone and greenery, the couple exchanged vows underneath an oversized floral arch anchored by hydrangeas. To build a sense of connection during the ceremony, the seating was arranged in gentle, curved rows radiating outward from the aisle. This simple layout softened the courtyard space, wrapping friends and family around the couple instead of forcing rigid lines.
The color palette was a homage to classic Lowcountry style:
-
Bridesmaid dresses in soft blue tones mirrored clusters of blue hydrangeas throughout the floral installations.
-
Even the couple’s dog made a appearance, outfitted in a custom matching bandana to join the bridal party.
From Golden Hour to Starlit Dance Floor
As the sun set over Charleston, the courtyard underwent a seamless transition. The ceremony space shifted into a high-energy reception centered around an open-air checkerboard dance floor. Canopy string lights crisscrossed overhead, illuminating the courtyard in a warm glow that kept the dance floor packed late into the night.
Captured by local photographer Alex Thornton, every detail, from the candid laughs to the glowing nightscape, highlighted the best of what a Charleston wedding has to offer: elegant design, thoughtful guest experiences, and dreamy outdoor spaces.
